Zero Waste Solid Conditioner Review – Battle Green Box Etsy UK

I know for a lot of people finding a decent zero waste solid conditioner that actually leaves your hair soft and shiny is not the easiest task. Due to this I thought I would do a full review of the Battle Green Box Chamomile zero waste conditioner bar that I tried recently.

I know a lot of people wonder are conditioner bars good for your hair as well so I will talk about the benefits of using a solid conditioner as well.

I’ve noticed recently more and more small and even bigger brands are bringing out solid shampoo and conditioner bars which I do honestly think is great! I try to support the smaller brands where I can for purchases including the zero waste solid conditioner from Battle Green Box which I review below.

Are Conditioner Bars Good For Your Hair

If you find a decent solid conditioner bar then it can be really good for your hair. Most conditioner bars have fairly gentle and natural moisturising ingredients in them, making them a great choice if you’re being cautious with what you use on your skin and hair.

Generally speaking conditioner bars will also be paraben free, phthalate free and sulphate free which is good if your scalp and skin is sensitive and prone to irritation.

There are a lot with various scents as well or fragrance free options if you’re sensitive to fragrance in products.

Years ago when I first tried my first solid conditioner bar there were not very many options around. Lush was the first solid conditioner bar that I tried, I think it was called Jungle and it smelt amazing but it didn’t do very much for my hair. Lush now seem to do 3 different solid conditioners but I haven’t tried any of those yet.

It’s worth noting that some of the solid conditioners I’ve tried in the past, including the Lush one actually left my hair feeling a bit heavy and almost waxy. Zero waste conditioner bars have come a long way since then though and I do think it’s worth looking around for one that suits your hair type.

Other Benefits For Using A Zero Waste Solid Conditioner

Using zero waste solid conditioners and shampoo bars are much better environmentally as well. Because they are in solid form they weigh a lot less than liquid shampoo and conditioners making them much easier to transport around.

Often they come plastic free as well which is great if you’re trying to reduce your plastic waste.

Another thing I’ve noticed since using a shampoo and conditioner bar is that they last so much longer than the liquid versions. When you buy the ordinary liquid versions of shampoo and conditioner you are basically paying for the water to be added to make the consistency easy to use. However, this means that it’s much easier to use too much of the product when you don’t need to.

I’ve noticed the same when trying the best tooth tabs with fluoride that when you’re using the concentrated versions of products they last so much longer because you’re only using the exact amount that you need.

Benefits to using zero waste conditioners:

• Fairly cheap to buy depending on which one you use
• They last such a long time compared to a bottle of regular conditioner
• They’re lighter so much better for travel
• No plastic packaging or plastic bottles
• Better environmentally because they’re lighter to transport around
• Most contain fairly natural ingredients so they’re a great choice for those being careful about what they use in the bathroom

My Review Of The Unscented Zero Waste Conditioner Bar

When I ordered the conditioner bar it was delivered plastic free and with a handy tin to store it in as well. I chose the chamomile (unscented) because I planned to also use this on my toddlers curly hair as well so I wanted something fairly mild. However, they do also stock citrus, mint and lavender & tea tree.

INGREDIENTS:

Theobroma Cacao Seed (Cocoa) Butter*; Cetearyl alcohol; Cetyl Alcohol (derived from coconut oil); Simmondsia Chinensis Seed (Jojoba) Oil*; Behentrimonium Methosulfate; Vitis Vinifera Seed (Grapeseed) Oil; Chamomilla Recutita Flower Powder; Kaolin*; Illite.*Organic.

I really liked this conditioner, all you did is get the bar a little bit wet first. You can rub directly onto the ends of your hair or rub the bar between your hands and spread that through the ends of your hair.

My hair is normal to dry and I don’t normally use conditioner on my scalp as that makes my roots get greasy quicker. So I just use this on the length of my hair and that works perfectly for me.

What I noticed straight away is this solid conditioner makes your hair feel silky and smooth when you’re using it. This is great to detangle the ends of your hair. This was something I noticed when doing the No Poo Hair Wash Method a few years ago I missed that silky feeling you get from conditioner. When you use natural methods to wash and condition your hair you don’t get the smooth feeling.

Once my hair is dry as well it looks healthy and shiny and the ends of my hair are well moisturised. This conditioner will last me such a long time as well because I only wash my hair once a week and I use such a minimal amount each time I wash.

This is one of the best plastic free conditioners available in the UK. I love that I’m supporting a smaller and local business when I buy this one as well.
