Wild Deodorant Honest Review – Zero Waste Deodorant

I recently put together some ideas for eco friendly deodorants and I included the Wild zero waste deodorant, however this is one I hadn’t tried myself at that point. As soon as I was running low I purchased the Wild deodorant in order to do an honest review.

I was really intrigued by the idea of the Wild deodorant because it’s a refill system, you purchase a case initially and then the actual deodorant refills fit into the case, meaning much less waste. I was worried about trying this zero waste deodorant initially because I’ve tried so many natural deodorants over the last few years and many of them simply don’t work or they leave white marks on your clothes which is not ideal.

About Wild Deodorant

Wild Deodorant is a London based company, they specialise in their refill system for natural deodorants but they also sell soap.

Although they do encourage signing up for their subscription service, you can order a one off purchase if you’d prefer.

They have a 30 day 100% satisfaction guarantee as well so if you try the deodorant and you’re not happy they encourage you to get in contact.

Their overall mission statement is to get rid of the throwaway culture around bathroom products these days without compromising on convenience or efficacy.

They’ve partnered with On A Mission which plants trees for every purchase as well. This means that they’re carbon negative as well and they’ve helped plant over 50,000 trees to help reforestation.

The refills are made from bamboo pulp and they can be put into paper recycling or onto a compost heap once you’re done with them. They’re also fully vegan and cruelty free as well.

How It Works?

So if you decide that you want to give their deodorant a try, you go onto their website which I’ll link below.

First step is to pick an aluminium reusable case of your choice. The case is 90g and 11 x 6 x 3cm. I chose a Pride Case however this is limited edition.

The usual case colours are as follows:

• Aqua
• Coral
• Purple
• Pink
• Electric Blue

Next step is to pick whether you want to sign up for a subscription or a one off purchase. The options are as follows:

• Subscribe and Save – 1 case + 1 refill for £12 (Flexible Subscription – Receive 3 refills every 2, 3 or 4 months for only £5 per refill)
• One off purchase – 1 case + 3 refills for £25
• The Full Monty – 1 case + 5 refills for £32

I signed up for the subscribe and save package because I wasn’t sure if this would be suitable for me. I’ve had bad reactions to natural deodorants in the past and I was being cautious.

A friend of mine actually gave me a code for a free case so this meant that my first order was only £5 for 1 case and 1 refill, which I think really helps if you are trying out the deodorant for the first time.

Sometimes they offer discount codes and you get a free case. Which is worth taking advantage of because when I checked the cases were normally £7 so you can save decent amount by using a link or code for your first order.

The next step is to choose a fragrance or fragrances that you’d like to try and put in your details for delivery including payment.

What I noticed is that Wild are encouraging ordering packs of the refills if it turns out you do like this zero waste deodorant. This is to prevent frequent shipping of individual refills – which does make a lot of sense if you think about it.

Specifics

The refills are all 43g and 5 x 5.5 x 2.5cm.

They do several different fragrances at the time that I’m writing this:

• Toffee Apple (limited)
• Fresh Cotton & Sea Salt
• Rhubarb & Custard
• Jasmine & Mandarin Blossom
• Bergamot & Grapefruit
• Coconut & Vanilla
• Mint & Eucalyptus
• Sandalwood & Patchouli

In the sensitive range:

• Fresh Cotton & Sea Salt
• Coconut & Vanilla
• Jasmine & Mandarin Blossom

All of the ingredients start with base ingredients and then the fragrance that you’ve chosen so they are quite similar in ingredients. I will show the ingredients of the Coconut Dreams sensitive version that I have used, although it looks like this one has been discontinued now and replaced with Coconut & Vanilla.

Ingredients:

Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Oryza Sativa Starch, Tapioca Starch, Stearyl Alcohol, Triethyl Citrate, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Helianthus Annuus Seed Wax, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter, Palmitic Acid, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Stearic Acid, Magnesium Hydroxide, Parfum, Propylene Glycol, Zinc Ricinoleate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Aqua, Arginine, Citric Acid, Cetrimonium Chloride, Tocopherol, Glycine Soja Oil.

Coconut Dreams (bicarb free)

Wild estimates that the refills should last most people between 4-6 weeks, although I will mention that a friend of mine said that hers lasted a few months which I thought was actually quite good.

Price Comparison

Within this Wild Deodorant review I wanted to include a comparison to other similar sustainable deodorants because the price really can vary when it comes to packaging and price of natural deodorants.

From the table above Wild Deodorant is definitely a very similar price to many of the other deodorants available with refillable style systems. However, it’s worth noting that if you do get a free case it will then make it the cheapest option out of all of the deodorants because it would only be £5.

Alternatively, I will share my thoughts on this zero waste deodorant here. I watched a few Wild deodorant reviews about a year ago and they did put me off a bit because the reviews were a bit negative. However, I’m so glad that I took the chance and decided to give this a try.

Are Wild Deodorants Worth It

Wild deodorant is definitely worth it, there’s so many benefits to using this deodorant environmentally and health wise. Using a natural deodorant means that you are using less harmful ingredients to keep you fresh, they have a huge range of fragrances depending on what you prefer. Plus it’s plastic free and with compostable refills.

Firstly I will state that I’m not a massively sweaty person so the Coconut Dreams version from the sensitive range works amazing for me. It’s very lightly fragranced and all that I’ve noticed is at the end of the day the scent disappears completely but I don’t smell bad. If I’ve been quite active and rushing around in the day I notice that when I sweat I then can smell the coconut fragrance and it’s pleasant.

If you’re completely new to natural deodorant there might be a transitional period while your body adjusts to it. In this time you might notice that you sweat more and there’s sort of a detox period. I didn’t notice this because I’ve been using natural deodorant for about 10 years now. However, it is something to bear in mind if you are completely new to natural deodorant.

In summary I really love this zero waste deodorant, when I work my way through the refill I have I’ll definitely be replacing it. I love the fact that the refills are made from bamboo pulp so they can be composted. It’s the ultimate circular system for a deodorant.

I’ve previously used Lush solid deodorants and although they worked fairly well they were very difficult to use once the deodorant got small. The Wild deodorant doesn’t have this problem because of the way it’s designed to fit into the case. I’m really glad that I decided to buy and do this Wild deodorant review.
