3 Best Tooth Tabs With Fluoride – Plastic Free Toothpaste UK

I was searching for quite a long time for the best plastic free toothpaste in the UK. In my eco friendly teeth cleaning routine post, I talk about tooth tabs and my journey to find an eco friendly toothpaste over the years. It can be costly to try a plethora of tooth tabs so I thought I would give my honest review of the 3 that I’ve tried with fluoride, to save you time and money.

I didn’t use fluoride in my toothpaste for many years, I don’t think it’s essential for some people, especially if your water has been treated. However, I’m doing a ‘No Buy’ Year for 2021 so I decided that I didn’t want to take the chance with my teeth this year. Avoiding expensive dentist trips just seemed to be sensible.

What Are Tooth Tabs

Tooth tabs are an alternative to ordinary toothpaste in a tube. Usually tooth tabs are natural and come free from artificial and potentially irritating ingredients. They are a common plastic free toothpaste for people trying to live more zero waste. You can usually buy tooth tabs with or without fluoride depending on your preference.

How Do You Use Tooth Tabs

Tooth tabs might sound complicated but they’re really easy to use. Just chew on one of the tablets to make into a paste and then wet your toothbrush and brush as normal. Using tooth tabs means that there’s less chance that you’ll use more than you need to. With a tube of toothpaste you only need to use a pea sized amount, however people often use more than that.

History Behind Truth Tabs

Truth tabs were created by a company known for their bamboo toothbrushes called Truthbrush. This company is a UK based company created by Catherine and Catherine. The company has carbon neutral shipping and they belong to 1% For The Planet.

Truth tabs which I bought from And Keep, I reviewed on my YouTube channel back in February. I found it very difficult to find a plastic free toothpaste with fluoride at this time, so I bought the small pack of these to try. The 1 month supply is £4.50 currently and the 3 months supply is £10. They only currently have Wild Mint flavour, this is not an issue for me as I do just like a general mint flavoured toothpaste.

My first impressions of the tooth tabs were that they crumbled easily in your mouth to create the paste. They don’t foam up very much but this isn’t an issue for me. This eco friendly toothpaste was very effective at cleaning my mouth and removing stains.

Dent Tabs Review

When I first tried these tooth tabs over a year ago, I didn’t particularly like them because they irritated my gums. However I realised not long after, that I actually needed to start flossing regularly to improve the health of my gums. Therefore this initial impression of Dent Tabs was not correct so I decided to try them again.

History Behind Dent Tabs

The company was founded in 1992 by Axel Kaiser in Berlin. Dent Tabs are now available in 40 countries which is really cool.

Dent Tabs seem to have around four plastic free toothpaste tabs available. On And Keep they list strawberry with fluoride for children £5.55 for 125 tabs and mint with fluoride £5.75 for a compostable bag of 125 tooth tabs. Dent Tabs themselves also stock non fluoride versions if you prefer not to have fluoride in your tooth tabs.

I tried these again further to regular flossing and I will state that the texture of them is quite different. When you first chew them, it feels almost thick in your mouth. However, as soon as you brush with your toothbrush it feels more comfortable and resembles a toothpaste. This eco friendly toothpaste is also very effective at cleaning your teeth and removing stains.

Eco Living Tabs Review

History Behind Eco Living

Eco Living are a brand of plastic free toothpaste that are made in the UK, Eco Living plant a tree through Eden Reforestation Project for every product sold which is really awesome. Eco Living are also members of 1% For The Planet.

Ingredients: Sorbitol, Calcium Carbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Kaolin, Mentha piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Menthol, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Silica, Sodium Monofluorophosphate (fluoride version only), Magnesium stearate, Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf Extract.

These tooth tabs are actually a similar in appearance to the Truth Tabs. I felt like the tablet reminded me of a mint when you chew it as it was not quite so soft as the Truth Tabs. In terms of cleaning this eco friendly toothpaste is just as efficient as the others at cleaning your teeth and removing stains.

The only thing that I did note with these toothpaste tabs is that they have a slightly bitter taste which lingers a bit after brushing. If you’re not too fussed about flavour you might not notice this, however.

Summary

I always find that reviews of plastic free toothpaste are usually missing the writer’s opinion so I will try to be as honest as I can about the tooth tabs that I tried.

I will say that if you like a lot of lather from your toothpaste, you won’t get this from toothpaste tabs. They have more natural ingredients and I believe the ingredient that usually makes toothpaste froth up is SLS also known as Sodium Laurel Sulphate.

As pictured at the start of my post, I just put all of my toothpaste tabs into a tin that I already have. Therefore although I tried each brand separately I’ve got more of a mix in the tin now. I think all of these eco friendly toothpastes are brilliant and a great way to reduce your waste at home.

However, I think the texture might play a big part in which one other people would prefer. The Dent Tabs are an unusual texture which might not be for everyone. Truth Tabs and Eco Living would be a better choice if you’re funny about textures. Truth Tabs are the easiest to chew and they remind me a bit of chewing on a children’s vitamin.

I find myself reaching for the Dent Tabs slightly more in the morning after coffee as I feel that it’s slightly better at removing stains. That-being-said all of these tooth tabs are brilliant and I’m super impressed with how well they work and the prices.

I will also mention that I frequently buy the strawberry Dent Tabs for my son as well. He loves the flavour of these and I’m happy that they have fluoride and they’re plastic free toothpaste.

I hope this thorough review has been helpful, I think it’s easy to spend a lot of money when you’re trying to find an eco friendly toothpaste that you like so I do hope this gives you an idea of what to expect.
