14 Best Eco Friendly Valentine’s Day Gifts UK

As Valentine’s day is fast approaching, I wanted to put together some eco friendly Valentine’s day gifts available in the UK to give you some ideas for a sustainable valentine’s day in 2022.

I know not everyone likes to celebrate Valentine’s day as it is generally quite a commercial holiday and to be honest, it usually stresses me out when I think about all the waste that usually comes along with it.

However, I think if you want to show your partner that you appreciate them with a unique but also sustainable Valentine’s day gift. Alternatively, you may want to give your partner some ideas for eco friendly Valentine’s day gifts for you. Then check out my post below for some unique ideas.

Cards

I have to admit that generally I find cards incredibly wasteful, in my family we tend to do a lot of ‘Forever’ style cards so that we just bring that out each holiday season and display it rather than buying a card every single year.

That-being-said if you do like the process of giving a card, the below plantable seed paper cards on Etsy UK are adorable.

They’re made from handmade paper and they are embedded with Basil, Baby’s Breath, Sweet Alyssium and Poppy seeds for planting when you’re done with them.

I have also been making some birthday cards this year as I’m doing a ‘Buy Nothing’ year, so a homemade card for an eco friendly Valentine’s day gift is another great way to avoid the process of buying a premade card for your partner.

Seed Bombs

On Etsy again these seed bombs are super affordable eco friendly Valentine’s day gifts, for that special someone. They’re really cute and made from recycled paper and wildflower seeds. They’re £5 for a pack of 4 as well which I thought was a good price.

Gift Sets

If you have a bit more money to spend, gift sets are another great option for eco friendly Valentine’s day gifts.

This Care Package from Etsy is beautifully packaged. It contains a foot scrub, a foot lotion, natural soap and a massage bar. I think due to the recent pandemic a lot of people could do with a bit of pampering so this would make a great gift for a sustainable Valentine’s day.

Candles

This stunning candle below is available on Etsy, however I know Vegan Bunny Co also has a website as well.

I love Vegan Bunny Co, they are a local business who uses natural and sustainable materials only, to create their candles. Any company that has vegan and sustainable products and cares about the environment is well worth supporting.

Chocolate

There are a few awesome options for ethical chocolate as eco friendly Valentine’s day gifts. In the interest of full disclosure, I haven’t tried all of the below brands. However, I do know that they are extremely popular so I feel quite happy to recommend them as great options for eco friendly Valentine’s day gifts.

The Vegan Kind Supermarket sell King Monty hazelnut crunch in a tin. This is definitely my kind of gift to buy as I would definitely find a cool way to reuse this tin.

The Vegan Kind also sell bars of Seed & Bean which is fairtrade and organic vegan chocolate which is brilliant.

Plus they sell a brand called Conscious which include the below Conscious Gift Box. What I love about this brand of chocolate is that it’s handmade in Sussex, powered by 100% renewable energy, plastic free and compostable materials. Even the ink used is vegetable ink and water based varnish.

In bars of chocolate in the Supermarket, one brand that stands out the most is Divine organic, they are a B Corporation so you know that they are doing everything socially and environmentally that they should be doing and the packaging is of course plastic free as well.

I’ve tried the blueberry and quinoa and I have to say it was really nice and such an unusual chocolate. You can buy Divine in Health stores and in the Supermarkets usually. Another great sustainable Valentine’s day gift for chocolate lovers.

If you prefer to shop at Etsy for chocolate I did see some beautiful plastic free handmade ethical chocolates, some were even vegan. However, I need to actually try some myself 😉 before I can properly recommend anything.

Sweets

I think there’s a few different sweet deliveries that we have available in sustainable packaging in the UK. I think sweets are great eco friendly Valentine’s gifts for people with a sweet tooth.

Rubydoobys example of Valentine's day gift

Rubydoobys is quite a well known one, you can buy vegan sweets pick and mix style. Their pouches are 100% compostable and everything for delivery including the label, box and tape is all biodegradable and plastic free.

Flowers

Flowers are unfortunately not the most sustainable gift for anyone, I know some people really like to receive flowers and that’s ok. Look for a flower supplier local to you that uses local flowers to avoid any unnecessary shipping. You can usually request plastic free as well.

Alternatively, dried flowers can be another great gift as if they get looked after, they could potentially last forever.

Plants

I personally find a plant is a much better eco friendly Valentine’s day gift as they can then be looked after and repotted as it grows. In the UK there are actually online stores to buy Indoor and Outdoor plants from, which is handy during the current pandemic. I’ve bought from Crocus previously, they are a huge gardening website in the UK which ships across the country.

Another great idea for a sustainable Valentine’s day is this really cute Gardening Kit. on Etsy. It’s a herb kit with a fully compostable tray, seeds and compost discs.

Puzzles

Puzzles are brilliant eco friendly Valentine’s day gifts for those with a love for games and puzzles.

The below Steampunk 3D puzzle is so cool. I have friends, men and women who are really good at puzzles and love challenges like this. It would make quite a unique sustainable Valentine’s day gift, I think.

Shaving Set

This Shaving Set from &Keep is probably the most affordable shaving set that I’ve seen. It’s £19.50 with a Bambaw Safety Razor and a choice between two different types of shaving bars. Definitely another great unisex sustainable Valentine’s day gift.

Or another shaving set you could buy is the below set from Jungle Culture Eco, it’s bamboo and priced currently at £17.99. It comes in a range of fun colours or they also have a black one or one with a bamboo handle.

Experience Gifts

I think it’s worth noting that probably the most eco friendly Valentine’s day gifts, would be an experience gift because then you’re not buying something physical. Since doing a No Buy Year it has really made me appreciate experiences so much more than material possessions.

I’ve recently discovered Veecoco which has 700+ vegan cooking courses, this is an amazing experience gift for Valentine’s day because it teaches a skill. You can get a gift card below and your partner can then choose a course. They have a ‘vegan cheese made easy’ which I personally loved or there’s other courses such as ‘fine Italian pastries and desserts’ or even ‘Healthy and easy plant-based cooking’ if you want to start with the basics.

Another great idea as a gift is to plant a tree for someone, I offset my carbon footprint through Make It Wild and they also have a section on their website where you can dedicate a tree to someone. Or there’s also other options like dedicating a wildflower living bouquet to someone rather than buying flowers which then die.

Whatever option you choose you receive a certificate and map of the location of your dedication. You can even visit your tree or flower patch on open days.

You can also get things like hot air balloon rides or concert tickets as an experience gift. Those sort of gifts are lovely because you get to experience them together and make some memories.
