ånd fragrance Product Review – Sustainable Perfume

ånd fragrance reached out to me and offered to send me their discover åll set to try out. I only work with brands that align with my values. Upon investigating I realised that this brand is great and they do share my values, so I wanted to share this with you!

About ånd fragrance

ånd fragrance was created by Perfumer Simon Constantine in 2020. Simon Constantine started by creating perfumes for Lush Cosmetics in 2007. If you’ve ever been to Lush you would have probably noticed their wide range of perfumes, including the Gorilla perfume range which was launched in 2010.

This is really cool because Simon was the ethical buying and perfumer for Lush so I expect he would have gained a lot of experience sourcing sustainable and ethical ingredients for Lush. Plus then using those ingredients in creating some really unique fragrances.

The name of the brand ånd comes from an Old Norse and English word, meaning breath, spirit and ghost. Isn’t that beautiful?

Their tagline is to ‘unstink the world’ and they aim to do this by standing in solidarity with indigenious communities and by helping protect our prescious ecosystem.

They focus on doing their bit to combat the climate crisis and restore our natural world. Which is so important, now more than ever!

ånd fragrance Perfumes

Får

One of my absolute favourites from the collection is Får. They describe it as the poshest of swanky cheesecakes imaginable, on a buttery biscuit base and I would have to agree. It’s sweet and citrus and the smell lingers all day.

They source the zuzu and lime from this fragrance from Alentejo a region of Portugal. The region has been devastated by raging wildfires and desertification as a reult of climate change.

The farmers in this region are turning to regenerative farming to combat this issue and ånd fragrance are using the recycled leftover ingredients in this fragrance.

Ingredients: DRF Alcohol Organic, Perfume, Yuzu essential oil (Citrus junos), Kaffir Lime leaf essential oil (Citrus hystrix), Lacdanum Resinoid (Cistus ladanifer), Linalool*, Linalyl Acetate*, Citronehllol*, Geraniol*, *occurs naturally in essential oils.

Sånd

For those people that love Sandalwood, Sand features Sandalwood, banana and black pepper. It is such a unique and peppery fragrance. They state that Sandalwood gets a bit of a bad rep because it reminds people of bong shops and joss sticks, but they’ve definitely improved on the fragrance in this perfume.

The Sandalwood oil that they’ve sourced from this fragrance comes from Sandalwood producer Dutjahn, who partners with industry experts and indigenous ownership to bring high quality Sandalwood to brands.

The essential oils gathered for this fragrance are from ‘deadwood’ which means standing dead wood found and distilled so no trees are destroyed in order to make it.

Ingredients: DRF Alcohol Organic, Perfume, Sandalwood Essential oil (Santalum Spicatum), Mimosa Absolute (Acacia Decurrens), Madagascan Vetivert Essential oil (Chrysopogon zizanioides), *Linalool, *Eugenol. *occurs naturall in essential oils.

Beån

As you might expect this fragrance features Tonka vanilla bean, sustainable Brazilian orange oil, lavender, neroli and fennel. This was actually my children’s favourite from the collection, my son was smelling his hand all day because he loved it! It’s very sophisticated and warm, that’s the best way I can describe it.

Tonka beans come from the Diptryx Odorata tree which grows in the Amazon rainforest. Essentially this bean requires the native forest to sustain it and native people to harvest it. Therefore they are standing with the ancient people and doing their best to protect them.

Ingredients: DRF Alcohol Organic, Perfume, Tonka Absolute (Dipteryx Odorata), Vanilla Absolute Fair Trade (Vanilla Planifolia), Cocoa Absolute Fair Trade (Cacao Theobroma), *Farnesol, *Coumarin, *Citral, *Geraniol, *Citronellol, *Anise Alcohol, *Limonene, *Linalool, *Iso Eugenol, *Benzyl Benzoate. *occurs naturally in essential oils.

Måd

This is another one of my favourites from the collection, it features Madagascan Vanilla, Ylang oil, Vetiver, Violet, Musk, Jasmine and Cloves. I would describe this one as vanilla but also feminine and a touch smoky. I always find that Jasmine in fragrances, leaves a smoky undertone. Tell me I’m not the only one? Honestly it’s a beautiful fragrance and the violet just compliments the other essential oils perfectly.

Unfortunately Madagascar has one of the world’s highest rates of deforestation and stopping production wouldn’t help. The people in this area need an income and by ånd fragrance working with Madagascar and sourcing ingredients, they’re helping the threatened communities to build social economic and ecological resilience.

Ingredients: DRF Alcohol Organic, Perfume, Vanilla Absolute Fair Trade (Vanilla Planifolia), Buchu Essential Oil, Bergamot Essential oil, *Linalool, *Coumarin, *Benzyl Salycilate, *Limonene, *Citral. *occurs naturally in essential oils.

Frånk

Frank includes Frankincense, Myrrh and lemon. This one was not at all how I expected the fragrance to smell. And Fragrance state that it’s fresh and fruity and I definitely agree, it’s not dark and dusty as you would expect a Frankincense perfume to smell.

Franincense resin from the tree in areas like Sanaag in Somaliland, has been harvested by at least 20 generations of families, which is really cool. Recently they’ve had to deal with a combination of drought and economic pressures, which has pushed the trees to the edge of extinction.

By sourcing the frankincense directly from communities in this region, they can put money back into the region and help their displaced communities and support their fragile livelihoods.

Ingredients: DRF Alcohol Organic, Perfume, Olibanium Essential oil (Boswelia Carterii), Myrrh Essential oil (Commimphora Myrrha), Lemon Essential oil (Citrus Limon), *Citral, *Limonene, *Coumarin, *Geraniol. *occurs naturally in essential oils.

Påtch

This one is for the Patchouli lovers out there (myself included), it’s very earthy but still such a unique fragrance. Patchouli itself does usually remind me of hippies, definitely not a bad thing. I love what they’ve done with this fragrance though, it reminds me of natural walks and walking barefoot on the grass. It’s a lovely fragrance.

Sumatra where the dark patchouli oil comes from, has been under thread for many years because the forest has been felled to make way for a lot of things ie rubber and palm oil. They source the patchouli oil from North of this region where they’re maintaining soil health and growing patchouli among other things, without felling any forest.

Ingredients: DRF Alcohol Organic, Perfume, *Citral, Sumatran Dark Patchouli essential oil, Pogostemon cablin, *Farnesol, Oudhi oil, Aquilara crassna, *Geranoil, Osmanthus oil, Osmanthus fragrans, *Limonene, *Linalool. *occurs naturally in essential oils.

Båre

Another great earthy fragrance is Bare which includes cedar essential oil, pine essential oil and rosewood. This is one should help you get that appreciation for Mother Earth and nature. Think wandering through the forest and taking in the wildlife around you.

The Great Bear Rainforest in Canada is where they source the Conifer tree essential oils for this fragrance. They select the branches and needles while still protecting the trees themselves. This is helping to restore a balance between consumers and the indigenous people from this area.

Tåg – Solid Perfume

The Tåg solid perfume is really intriguing. It’s shaped like a mushroom which is really cool to start with, the packaging is part Ecuadorian Tague Nuts and part Recycled drinks cans.

This is not included in the discover åll set but I wanted to mention it here because it’s really fascinating.

ånd fragrance Product Review

Now I’ll get to my final thoughts of this ånd fragrance product review.

First of all I love the packaging! It’s very artistic and creative and everything from the website to the packaging of their products, is absolutely stunning!

Pictures don’t do it justice but I would really say that this would make a great gift for Christmas, whether you’re requesting it for yourself or buying for someone that you know loves perfume.

This set would be perfect if you’re unsure which fragrance you should go for.
