9 New Innovative Inventions that Help our Environment
I wanted to put together a post on new innovative inventions that help our environment because I’m a bit of a geek and I love this sort of thing. For a long time I didn’t really want to get on board with new technology. I had the most basic phone until about 8 years ago when I bought a smartphone.
Since then I have seen the huge benefits to technology, despite the fact we all depend on it so much. I’ve listed some eco friendly apps for Android phones if you like that sort of thing.
Which Are The Most Eco Friendly Inventions
The below eco friendly invention ideas are really cool and have the potential to save our planet. I can’t wait to see the good work that these inventions do for our planet.
Bee Drones
I have to admit this innovative invention scares me a lot, I have watched all of the Black Mirror series on Netflix. If you haven’t watched it before, it’s a controversial and scientific fiction series, depicting what could happen in the future with new technologies. One of the episodes features Bee Drones and it goes horribly wrong when the technology gets hacked.

When I first heard of this technology I did feel very worried, however the idea behind this is pretty cool. Ejiro Miyako a chemist in Japan thought of an idea of using drones with a bubble gun attached with a gel like substitute to pollinate and replicate bees.
Although, I do love the idea behind this, I do hope we don’t ever need to use it and we can save the bees instead.
Seeding Drones
Another innovative invention using drones, is an idea that has been invented by a company called Dendra. The company uses drones armed with seedpods containing germinated seeds and nutrients and the drones hover 6 foot above the ground and shoot the seeds into the ground using air pressure.

Dendra estimates it will take 400 teams of with 2 drone operators and 10 drones per team to plant 10 billion trees per year.
Deforestation is a huge problem at the moment and this amazing idea could help combat climate change for our environment
Autonomous Electric Vehicles
This is probably my favourite innovative invention for the future and to help our planet.
I really hate driving, I passed my test 3 years ago and although I will admit that it does make things easier to get around the country and out of my village – I still hate it. I have driving anxiety and it’s just not enjoyable for me. I also really suck at parking, no matter how much I practice I still suck! If there’s a space that you need to parallel park into – forget about it, I’ll park a mile away and walk.

So when my ex mentioned a few years ago that Elon Musk predicts that autonomous electric vehicles are the future and within 10 years all cars produced will be autonomous, I was intrigued.
Elon Musk has stated that Tesla will have fully autonomous vehicles released in 2021.
I’ve heard that the only way AI controlled vehicles would work on the road is if no humans are driving at all. When they’ve practised with autonomous vehicles on the road, the issues have become apparent when the vehicle is waiting for a safe space to pull out at a roundabout. As humans, we’re a little more pushy and more likely to take a risk by pulling out. However the AI vehicles have got stuck at the roundabout waiting for a ‘clear’ gap to pull out.
I think this one is really interesting. I would love an electric vehicle but even second-hand they cost around £9,000. With current finances it will take me several years to save up for that. Even then, that sort of money would probably be better spent on getting on the property ladder.
That-being-said renting an electric vehicle seems a great idea for now and it seems more of a rental scheme would work better with the autonomous electric vehicles in the future as well.
Electric Passenger Aeroplanes
I was wondering how long this would take to happen with electric cars being made every day. Electric small aeroplanes have been around since 1970, however in recent years companies have been more interested in the technology to help our environment.
The first 9 seater electric passenger plane is due to take it’s flight in 2022. This article states that the 300 seat passenger planes are still something that they are unable to do for long flights etc because the weight of the batteries needed to power a large aeroplane – would be so much more than the fuel that’s currently used. Meaning the aeroplane would never get off the ground.
I personally have avoided flying since I heard how bad it is for the environment. However, I do appreciate that not everyone has that luxury, due to family or work commitments.
Hopefully if some of these other innovative inventions help our environment, we’ll get more of an opportunity to work on this technology.
Bio Plastic
This is something that is already out there but I wanted to mention this innovative invention because I hope it gets used more by companies in the future.

As we’re already aware, plastic is such a huge issue. It’s everywhere, even you buy a sustainable item sometimes like a bamboo item. Often it is sent in plastic. Even though we have the technology to make a ‘plastic’ like film from corn starch and a solid ‘plastic’ from sugar cane.
The Nuud deodorant that I tried last year came in a tube made out of sugar cane which I thought was really cool. Even though I didn’t get on with the deodorant as such.
It seems that the production for plastic is so cheap that even if we recycle plastic, companies are more likely to just make new plastic because it’s cheaper, unfortunately.
Regardless of this, I hope that bio plastic is used in the future and we can ditch plastic for good!
Edible Water Bubble
The edible water bubble is one of the cleverest innovative inventions that I have heard of. It’s made from an edible seaweed extract which dissolves in your mouth. This is so cool and would eliminate the need for single use plastic bottles altogether.
The Ooho as it’s called was invented by the London based Kitchen Rocks Lab. I couldn’t find any details on if and when they’ve started production of this but it seems such an amazing idea I hope it takes off.
It only costs about 2cents per bubble to produce so from a business point of view it makes a lot of sense to go with this idea. However, this idea was first publicised at least 5 years ago and it doesn’t seem to have appeared anywhere yet so in I do wonder if they’ve encountered problems with storage or shipping.
Plastic In The Ocean
The plastic in our oceans is a major issue for our marine life and for us. The next two innovative inventions were invented to combat this problem and I think they sound really exciting.

Seabin
The Seabin was created by two Australian surfers and it’s powered by an on shore pump. The project has already started spreading worldwide. On their website it states that each Seabin has the ability to collect the following every year:
- 90, 000 plastic bags
- 35,700 disposable coffee cups
- 16,500 plastic bottles
- 166,500 plastic utensils
What’s more is that it also cleans out oil and pollutants from the ocean as well.
The Ocean Cleanup
The CEO of this innovative invention is 23 year old Boyan Slat, he created this project at the age of 18. His genius invention was a V shaped device that passively collects larger bits of plastic before they break down and become microplastics.
On their website they state that they’ve predicted that their technology could clean up 50% of the Pacific Oceans plastic in 5 years. Their long term goal is to make a plastic free ocean by 2050.
This project is really interesting, they’ve created sunglasses out of some of the plastic they’ve collected since 2019 and they offset the carbon from the project as well.
Transparent Solar Panel
I know a lot of people think that solar panels on a house are an eye-sore. I personally don’t mind and if I was in the position to be able to put solar panels on my property I would because what they do for our environment is more important.

However, a UK company called Polysolar has invented transparent, slightly tinted solar panels which function really well. It states on their website that you can buy them in various transparencies so that suggests that they have the potential to be used as windows which is so cool.
This is revolutionary and such a useful innovative invention for the future. If you’re interested in switching to a green energy company, check out my post.
I hope you geeked out at my post as much as I did. Some of these eco friendly invention ideas are so awesome and I hope they help save our environment.
I’ve asked the question is zero waste possible in this post, if you wanted to learn more about sustainability in business.

Klean Kanteen
My favourite reusable water bottle is Klean Kanteen and I use these bottles for my children too. They’re strong, solid and leakproof which is essential for families.

I did think of one invention, but it doesn’t work out. Converting plastic to oxygen is so hard!!!

Oh my goodness, that would be genius if it was doable haha!
