Sustainable Tips for Lazy People – 10 Easy Tips
I know it can be a bit overwhelming when you want to live more sustainably but you don’t want to create more work for yourself. Due to this I decided to put together some sustainable tips for lazy people.
Perhaps you’re not lazy but you are very busy and don’t have a lot of time. If that’s the case, I’m sure these 10 ways to be more sustainable will help you get started. There also might be some barriers for people that stop them from living sustainably.
I’ve discussed these sustainable tips for lazy people, in a video on my YouTube channel below.

What Are 10 Ways To Be More Sustainable
I know it’s difficult if you’re busy or you just don’t have the energy to do more for the environment. This is a save the world guide but for lazy people. These super easy sustainable tips will help you do your part for the environment but with minimal effort.
Ecosia Search Engine
A super easy switch is to use the Ecosia search engine instead of the usual ones. Ecosia plants trees on the behalf of users and they use 100% renewable energy to power their data centres. On your mobile phone you can get the Ecosia app and use it in place of Google. I also have the Ecosia extension for Google Chrome on my computer which is really handy. This is one of the minimal effort sustainable tips for lazy people.

I was aware of this search engine but I kept forgetting to use it so I just found deleting the Google app on my phone and putting the Ecosia in it’s place, was the easiest way I got around this.
Ocean Hero
Ocean Hero is another excellent search engine, for every 5 searches you make they recover one plastic bottle from the ocean. Founded in 2019, their aim is to fight against ocean pollution. They use money they receive from advertisements to directly recover plastic, build recycling plants and build awareness around the issues with our oceans and marine life.
Opt For Online Statements & Bills
I know this is a boring admin task, it’s the sort of thing I used to put off organising for ages! However, avoiding these things being sent to you in the post is a really easy sustainable tip.
It’s quite a simple one because once you’ve got it set up for online statements and bills then you don’t need to do anything else and you can always receive these statements via email if you needed to check anything.
Reusable Bags
I know it’s such a struggle for some people to remember reusable bags, of course you can just not get a bag when you go shopping. If I’m not prepared and I end up somewhere without a reusable bag, I’ll put whatever I’m buying or collecting into either my handbag or I’ll just carry it.

Another thing you can do with minimal effort, is to ensure that you have a reusable bag in your car, in your bag, in your coat pocket or even next to your shoes. This way you’ve covered all bases. A friend of mine has done this with reusable masks so that she is never caught without a mask during the Covid pandemic.
Fruit And Vegetable Box
Getting a fruit and vegetable box delivered is one of the best sustainable tips for lazy people. If you can afford it and it’s available in your country of course. The good thing about fruit and vegetable boxes is that they deliver to your house and they collect the empty box from the previous week.
I personally despise going to the supermarket, even before I had children I just found it so stressful. Being an introvert I just disliked the busy atmosphere and all the people. Getting my food shopping delivered, milk and juice delivered and a vegetable box is just ideal for my family.
Solid Soap

Solid soap is one of the great sustainable tips for lazy people because it doesn’t take any extra time to wash your hands but it does save a lot of waste that usually comes along with buying liquid soap. The same can be applied to shampoo and conditioner because when you buy the liquid versions you are basically paying for mostly water. Shampoo and conditioner bars are just solid versions and are a super easy switch.
Car Share
If you’re quite a lazy person or you just don’t have the time, it would probably not be beneficial to recommend cycling or walking instead of using a car. Another way to reduce your carbon footprint is to car share. There are apps that you can get, where you can organise car pooling with people. You can car share to work if there’s someone that lives close to you and split the petrol cost. It’s one of the easiest sustainable tips for lazy people or even busy people.

Another thing that I do, is that I always make sure that I do errands altogether when I’m in the car. I’m fortunate to work from home and we live really close to our local school so we can walk to school – whatever the weather. Due to this I don’t use my car very often. However, being in a village where public transport is not the most reliable and doesn’t even run on a Sunday – having a car is very important. Until we’re in a position to purchase an electric car then this is what I do.
Go Vegan
This may be one of the unpopular sustainable tips for lazy people, however animal agriculture is the leading cause of global warming. I learnt this from watching Cowspiracy 5 years ago, for a list of documentaries click here. When you think how overpopulated our earth is now, with so many people requiring meat for every single meal. It’s not surprising that that we have overbred cows, pigs and chickens to keep up with the demand.

Of course being vegan myself I would love to recommend you go fully vegan for the environment. However, I do understand that this might not be possible for everyone. Even just reducing your meat and dairy intake dramatically would benefit the environment a lot. Having a few meals a week where you have plant based meals, would really help and I urge you to give this a try.
I’ve been vegan 5 years now and it’s surprisingly easy to create vegan versions of your favourite meals. I do appreciate that it might not be quite so easy elsewhere in the world, however in the UK you can get vegan meatballs, sausages and mince – which is a great place to start. If you need any help with this, leave me a comment and I’d happily answer any questions you have.
Offset Carbon
I only recently found out about this but you can use a website such as Make It Wild where you can sign up for a monthly subscription to offset the carbon you produce. You can use a carbon calculator first of all to work out how much carbon your lifestyle produces and then use this to pick a subscription on Make It Wild. Essentially they plant trees to offset your carbon.
This is one of my favourite sustainable tips for lazy people, if there’s parts of your life that you are unable to change such as commuting for work etc then this might be a great one for you. If you have the money of course, I appreciate that this might not be in the budget for everyone. It’s such a great idea though, I’d love to join this scheme in the future.
1% For The Planet
This option is actually similar to the idea above, if you are an individual or a business you can sign up to 1% For The Planet. This scheme was created as a business idea initially, to use 1% of your profits for environmental charities to use. It’s such a small portion of profits or wages and it goes to do something good. When you decide to join this scheme you can decide which environmental charities are particularly important to you and they ensure your money goes towards those. There’s a lot of sustainable and ethical brands such as Klean Kanteen which are B Corporations and a part of 1% For The Planet, which makes me really happy.
I hope these sustainable tips for lazy people have been helpful. Of course I do understand that not everyone reading this will actually consider themselves lazy. I’m personally not a lazy person but I do struggle to find the time to do everything that I want to for the environment. This is why I created this list of 10 ways to be more sustainable, as I realised that there might be others in my position that want to do more but can’t for whatever reason.
I have a frugal tips that are also sustainable post or sustainable laundry routine if you’re interested in learning more.

Klean Kanteen
My favourite reusable water bottle is Klean Kanteen and I use these bottles for my children too. They’re strong, solid and leakproof which is essential for families.
