6 Best Vegan T-Shirt Brands You Need to Know About
Are you a vegan? Or perhaps you’re looking to buy a t-shirt from one of the best vegan t-shirt brands as a gift?
I mostly buy clothes for myself and my children secondhand so when I decide to purchase a t-shirt I always ensure that the brand I’m buying from is a sustainable and ethical brand.
In this post I’ll go through some of the best vegan t-shirt brands so you can find an amazing vegan t-shirt yourself!
Why We Should Choose Vegan T-Shirts
You might be wondering why choose vegan t-shirts when you’re shopping? I’ve touched on this a little but as veganism is a lifestyle choice, vegans will generally be more conscious of the materials that are used in their clothing and sometimes (like myself) they will also prefer to support sustainable and ethical brands where possible too.
The main reason why we should choose vegan t-shirts when shopping is to avoid the harmful practices which happen to animals for the fabrics that are used for clothing. Often vegan t-shirts will also include a slogan which is a great way to spread the vegan message and get people talking.
Some of the materials that vegans avoid are as follows:
- Fur
- Silk
- Wool
- Reptile Skin
- Mohair
- Down
- Leather
In terms of t-shirts, most t-shirts in general will be made from cotton or polyester and sometimes a mix. I’ve written a post talking about the most sustainable and unsustainable fabrics, however I’ll just summarise here.
Although cotton is a natural material, it’s very water intensive and it takes 2700 litres of water to make one t-shirt. It also takes a lot of pesticides when grown, these pesticides get released into the air and cause issues for humans and the wildlife in the surrounding areas.

Another thing to consider with ordinary cotton t-shirts, is that often the t-shirts are dyed using quite harmful chemicals as well.
Polyester has been used for fast fashion for many years now. Polyester is a manmade fabric, made from petroleum and therefore is basically a form of plastic. The process to make Polyester and Nylon fabric is harmful for the environment.
It is worth avoiding these fabrics, if you can and try to pick Organic Cotton, Hemp and other vegan fabrics instead.
